Start with the problem

Before comparing agencies, describe the business challenge in plain language. Are you trying to launch, change perception, create participation, generate leads, align stakeholders or explain something complex? The problem should guide the agency search.

Look for relevant thinking, not only attractive work

A portfolio should show how the agency made decisions, not only the final visuals. Ask what the brief was, what changed, what the agency owned and what the work was designed to achieve.

Check the connection between strategy and delivery

Many projects lose quality between the initial idea and the final execution. Ask who will lead the strategy, creative development, production and reporting. A clear team structure reduces handover gaps.

Test how they communicate

A useful partner can explain complicated ideas simply, surface risks early and give you a clear next step. The proposal should show that the team listened to the brief rather than inserting a generic package.

Agree on success before work starts

Define the deliverables, responsibilities, approvals, timeline and measures of success early. This gives both sides a better basis for decisions when the project changes.
